ITS BOOK FAIR TIME! COME JOIN US SEPT.25TH -29TH!

Next week is Spirit Week at Leggett Valley School! Our elementary students helped us pick our themes for the dress for each day. Student leadership is planning some fun activities for Friday as well as prizes for those who participate all week. We will end the week with a dance! Looking forward to seeing the Panther Spirit next week!

The County of Mendocino will be at Leggett Valley School TODAY for a Community Resilience Outreach and Listening Session from 5:30-7pm. Please join us in the school library to share our needs with the County and Supervisor Gjerde, who is working hard on our behalf to make sure our small community is not overlooked.
Last year, the County received a "Prepare California Jumpstart" grant award to hire grants staff and pursue resilience grants supporting the census tracts in Mendocino County designated by CalOES as demonstrating high hazard exposure and high social vulnerability.
The input provided by the community at these outreach and listening sessions will be used to help determine the types of resilience projects we pursue grant funding for in the future.
Good Evening Panther Families as you may be aware we are still in a Transportation crunch this week. Steven is driving the North bus route. Teachers Lyle and Amber will be doing the morning south van run pick up. The after school PM south drop offs will be driven by Cliff Tuesday, Thursday ,and Friday and Wednesday by Shelley, leaving campus at 3:20pm. Please be available to pick up your child at their stop. As many parents that can pick up or drop off would be greatly appreciated. Please contact the school at 707-925-6285 if you have any questions and to confirm who needs parent/school transportation. Were expected to be back to our normal transportation operation next week. Thanks so much for your patience, understanding and help as we get through this transportation dilemma.
We will be showing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse outside tonight by the gazebo at dusk for Family Movie Night. Special thanks to our student leadership for their planning and preparation. We hope to see you all here!

The second and third grade class is off to a great school year! We spent the first week learning about how to be a “Class Family” and worked together doing team-building projects like the Saving Fred Challenge. We also created our Future Leaders bulletin board, talking about our strengths and interests and a career that might match those skills. The second week of school we spent assessing students to see where their needs are in areas such as penmanship, number writing, reading, and math. This week we have begun small groups and are easing into curriculum, as well as continuing to practice procedures and routines. We are starting off the year with a novel study using Because of Winn Dixie, and are enjoying learning about the characters and how they interact with one another.

As many parents who can bring their kids in would be much appreciated. We are doing our best to cover. The morning transportation to the south side on Thursday and Friday this week will be as follows:
-Laytonville will need to bring kids to school
-Bell Springs and Cummings will be picked by Shelly in a van
-South Leggett students will be picked up in a van by Korina and Shelly
Dear Panther Families,
You may be aware that we are in a transportation crunch this week. Steven is driving the north bus route and we are trying to cover the south bus run with the 2 vans and available staff. We have 31 students on the south run and 17 seats in two vans. If your student rides the south bus and you're able to drive them to and or from school for the remainder of this week through the end of next week, September 15, please call Korina at 925-6285. If we can get the number of students who really need transportation down to 17, we will not have to cancel stops as long as we have the drivers we need. We will keep you updated as much as possible.
Dear Leggett Families,
What a wonderful week we have had! Thank you to those who came to Back to School Night. Leggett is owed a food truck! Fingers crossed! And, it was so fun to spend time with those students and families at the Mountain Folk Festival on Saturday. The parade was adorable.
I need to clarify the rules around sick kids and doctor's notes. I have learned that it is up to the district to decide if that is necessary and not actually mandatory. We will NOT be requiring a doctor's note for sick kids to return to school once they are well. Please do not send sick kids to school. Students need to be fever-free without fever-relieving medication for 24 hours before they can return to school. Please DO send your students back to school when they are well.
As a first-time Superintendent in a small school and town, this was my mistake. It was my "big city" experiences. I apologize for the confusion and thank you for your understanding. Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful day! Ms. Lahera
We are looking forward to seeing parents at our Back to School Afternoon on Wednesday, 8/30. Meetings will begin at 3:20. Please join us!

We are looking forward to seeing our students back on campus this Monday, August 21. School begins at 8:30.

Good morning families, our summer program will be closed today due to the power outage. The school does not have power, water, phones, etc. Stay safe and have fun. We hope to see you tomorrow.
Attention: Elementary Parents!
Hello!
We hope you are enjoying your summer!
We wanted to send you information about an exciting, free parenting program available through First 5 Mendocino. Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) Parenting Group is a parenting course that meets once a week for 8 weeks on Zoom, starting on July 19th from 10am-12pm. There are parents on our staff who have done this series, and it is a really helpful and healthy experience for families. Basically, these courses focus on strategies to boost student confidence, manage misbehavior, set rules and routines, encourage behavior that you prefer, take care of yourselves as parents and feel confident in your parenting. These courses for parents of elementary age children are a really amazing and useful resource. If you would like more information or to talk about this program, you can contact the school at any time, or contact First 5 via the following link:
