Good morning, Leggett Valley Elementary Parents, we hope you all had a wonderful holiday break. This is a reminder that we have parent-teacher conferences for K-6 grades for the rest of the week starting today. School will be dismissed at 1pm. All students are welcome in the afterschool program where there are special activities planned. The regular bus routes will run at 4:15. Missy is calling parents to determine who would like an earlier drop-off for each of these days in case we can accommodate that. Our teachers are looking forward to speaking with all of you about the progress your children are making at school and how we can work together to support their continued growth. Please reach out to us if there are any questions or if there is anything you need.

To our Leggett Valley Unified Family,
We wish you all a very happy and healthy week of love and thanksgiving with family and friends! We are so grateful for each and every one of you.
As we return to school following a holiday, it is important that we all take measures to keep each other safe and healthy. We will have COVID test kits available at school for you. We will be posting the California Department of Public Health's updated recommendations. We encourage you all to get up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations.
Enjoy the holiday week and stay healthy,
Superintendent Lahera

Please complete the survey in its entirety by clicking on the link below.
The survey consists of four categories to be rated:
• Probability (how likely you think it is that this will occur)
• Magnitude (how bad you think it is going to be)
• Warning (how far in advance might you know it is going to occur)
• Duration (how long do you think the event will last – when ongoing damage or threat stops)

Next week is Spirit Week at Leggett Valley School! Our elementary students helped us pick our themes for the dress for each day. Student leadership is planning some fun activities for Friday as well as prizes for those who participate all week. We will end the week with a dance! Looking forward to seeing the Panther Spirit next week!

The County of Mendocino will be at Leggett Valley School TODAY for a Community Resilience Outreach and Listening Session from 5:30-7pm. Please join us in the school library to share our needs with the County and Supervisor Gjerde, who is working hard on our behalf to make sure our small community is not overlooked.
Last year, the County received a "Prepare California Jumpstart" grant award to hire grants staff and pursue resilience grants supporting the census tracts in Mendocino County designated by CalOES as demonstrating high hazard exposure and high social vulnerability.
The input provided by the community at these outreach and listening sessions will be used to help determine the types of resilience projects we pursue grant funding for in the future.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30 is Back to School Night from 4-6:30pm. El Cora Mexican Food Truck will be here. Parents will meet in the gym at 4pm. Classroom visits will begin around 4:25. From 5:30-6:30, there will be a presentation for parents on our School Safety curriculum, called HERO. Parents are encouraged to come hear how we will handle a school emergency (which we hope will never happen) and how we will keep students safe.
Leggett Valley School will have a float in the parade at the Mountain Folk Festival on Saturday, September 2. If you would like your child to walk with us, please meet us at 9:30am by the firehouse. The parade is at 10am. Spirit wear is encouraged!
Do you know a student who you would like to see take a leadership role at school? Complete a nomination forms in the office by Friday.

Good morning families, our summer program will be closed today due to the power outage. The school does not have power, water, phones, etc. Stay safe and have fun. We hope to see you tomorrow.

Attention: Elementary Parents!
Hello!
We hope you are enjoying your summer!
We wanted to send you information about an exciting, free parenting program available through First 5 Mendocino. Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) Parenting Group is a parenting course that meets once a week for 8 weeks on Zoom, starting on July 19th from 10am-12pm. There are parents on our staff who have done this series, and it is a really helpful and healthy experience for families. Basically, these courses focus on strategies to boost student confidence, manage misbehavior, set rules and routines, encourage behavior that you prefer, take care of yourselves as parents and feel confident in your parenting. These courses for parents of elementary age children are a really amazing and useful resource. If you would like more information or to talk about this program, you can contact the school at any time, or contact First 5 via the following link:

Leggett Valley Unified School District is delighted to announce the hiring of our new Superintendent/Principal Sierra Lahera. Ms. Lahera came to Mendocino County in 2017 to continue her career in Public Education. She came to Mendocino County seeking a place to set her roots where “there are more trees than people”! Prior to moving to Mendocino County, Sierra lived in southern California where she worked for the past 23 years with children and families. Her career in Public Education includes early childhood education, substitute teaching in all grades K-12, teaching high school special education, serving as the Special Education Director and Coordinator for Ukiah Unified School District and most recently has worked for the Mendocino County Office of Education as an Education Specialist.
Ms. Lahera shares that “It has been an absolute pleasure to start learning about our awesome schools and dedicated staff. I felt right at home here from the very first time I stepped onto both campuses. I am eager to get to know students and parents by name at both Whale Gulch and Leggett Valley school sites. I welcome folks to come in and chat with me anytime. I want to especially thank the school board members who are clearly so in tune with the staff and communities and care very much about our youth. It is an honor that they have put their trust in me. I can’t wait to get started.”
The new Superintendent/Principal will begin working part time on both campuses right away with Interim Superintendent Joanie Potter. She is looking forward to her new role and hopes to be an integral part of bringing the community together with events and activities, celebrating our successes, and most importantly, growing hearts and minds. Please feel free to reach out to her at 707 925-2005 or email sierralahera@leggett.k12.ca.us
Leggett Valley Unified School District warmly welcomes Sierra Lahera to the school communities and feels so very fortunate to have her become a part of the school family.
